{"id":218239,"date":"2022-09-24T07:26:28","date_gmt":"2022-09-24T06:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=218239"},"modified":"2022-09-24T07:26:28","modified_gmt":"2022-09-24T06:26:28","slug":"fg-plans-to-sell-electricity-transmission-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/09\/24\/fg-plans-to-sell-electricity-transmission-company\/","title":{"rendered":"FG plans to sell electricity transmission company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government is reportedly gearing up to put the Transmission Company of Nigeria, up for sale.<\/p>\n<p>This is coming\u00a0on the heels of stalled negotiations between the Federal Government and the National Union of Electricity Employees as the latter threatens to shut down the economy.<\/p>\n<p>A source on Thursday disclosed that\u00a0talks\u00a0 to resolve pending disputes between the workers and the Federal Government had hit the rocks, and was \u201ccurrently not yielding the desired results.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cThe Federal Government is quietly negotiating with buyers to sell the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/16\/tcn-appeals-to-electricity-workers-to-suspend-planned-strike\/\">TCN<\/a>. The process will be announced soon,\u201d the source had said.<\/p>\n<p>The workers have, for the second time, threatened to shut down the national grid over unmet demands by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Zonal Organising Secretary, North-West, NUEE, Comrade Dukat Ayuba, while briefing newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday, explained that although negotiation was still ongoing, the group would embark on a fresh strike.<\/p>\n<p>He described the privatisation process as a scam.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cThat was why we kicked against privitasing the distribution sector, because the investors don\u2019t have the capacity and expertise. As committed Nigerians, we advised the government against it. But the government was hellbent on doing so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, investors were still operating with obsolete equipment dating back to 35, 40, and 50 years, stating that one would expect that with their coming, they would replace the obsolete equipment but nothing had been done.<\/p>\n<p>He regretted that the nation still generated 5,000 megawatts of electricity, saying that it was the same old 5,000 megawatts, with no benefit from privatisation.<\/p>\n<p>General Secretary, NUEE, Joe Ajaero confirmed findings about stalled negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>He added that no\u00a0 agreement had been reached.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo agreement yet. They are playing pranks. To compute the money they owe, they said their database is corrupted.
