{"id":21891,"date":"2021-04-15T12:57:56","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T11:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=21891"},"modified":"2021-04-15T12:57:56","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T11:57:56","slug":"igp-disbands-police-monitoring-units-in-lagos-port-harcourt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/15\/igp-disbands-police-monitoring-units-in-lagos-port-harcourt\/","title":{"rendered":"IGP disbands police monitoring units in Lagos, Port Harcourt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the immediate disbandment of the IGP Monitoring Satellite Offices in Lagos and Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the disbandment is as a result of complaints of harassment and operating beyond their briefs by Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/07\/just-in-adamu-hands-over-to-acting-igp-baba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Baba<\/a>\u00a0 gave the order while speaking at his maiden meeting with Command Police Commissioners and zonal AIGs, on Thursday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The police Boss said the IGP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/03\/house-of-reps-atleast-386-soldiers-resigned-from-the-nigerian-army-in-one-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monitoring Units<\/a> will be re-organised.<\/p>\n<p>The disbandment is coming 24 hours after the Police Service Commission asked the IGP to check the proliferation of police investigating units.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Police Service commission, the units were bringing huge embarrassments to the force.<\/p>\n<p>The commission Chairman, Musiliu Smith, said there must be proper and close monitoring of police investigative units to stem the atrocities its officials committed in the line of duty.<\/p>\n<p>The retired IGP had also stressed the need to quickly treat cases of misconduct by the officers \u201cso that those found wanting are brought to book\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the immediate disbandment of the IGP Monitoring Satellite Offices in Lagos and Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
