{"id":21909,"date":"2021-04-15T13:35:22","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T12:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=21909"},"modified":"2021-04-15T13:35:22","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T12:35:22","slug":"nigerias-inflation-hits-18-17-highest-in-4-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/15\/nigerias-inflation-hits-18-17-highest-in-4-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria\u2019s inflation hits 18.17% \u2013 highest in 4 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nigeria\u2019s inflation rate rose to 18.17 percent on March amid accelerating increase in food prices, the National Bureau of Statistics said earlier today.<\/p>\n<p>The figure is the highest since the year 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The food inflation also increased by 1.16 percent on a year-on-year basis from 21.79 percent in February to 22.95 in March.<\/p>\n<p>On month-on-month basis, the Headline index <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/03\/price-of-rams-skyrocket-in-lagos-as-cattle-traders-strike-persists\/\">increased<\/a> by 1.56 percent in March 2021. This is 0.02 percentage points higher than the rate recorded in February 2021 (1.54 percent).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe urban inflation rate increased by 18.76 percent (year-on-year) in March 2021 from 17.92 percent recorded in February 2021, while the rural inflation rate increased by 17.60 percent in March 2021 from 16.77 percent in February 2021,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn March 2021, food inflation on a year on year basis was highest in Kogi (29.71%), Sokoto (27.02%) and Ebonyi (26.59%), while Abuja (20.10%), Kebbi (19.98%) and Bauchi (18.61%) recorded the slowest rise in year on year inflation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn month on month basis however, March 2021 food <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/23\/despite-high-inflation-cbn-retains-lending-rate\/\">inflation<\/a> was highest in Rivers (3.52%), Niger (2.92%) and Gombe (2.85%), while Zamfara (0.51%) recording the slowest rise in month on month food inflation with Yobe and Kebbi recording price deflation or negative inflation (general decrease in the general price level of food or a negative food inflation rate).\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nigeria\u2019s inflation rate rose to 18.17 percent on March amid accelerating increase in food prices, the National Bureau of Statistics said earlier today.
