{"id":22124,"date":"2021-04-16T05:00:34","date_gmt":"2021-04-16T04:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=22124"},"modified":"2021-04-16T05:00:34","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T04:00:34","slug":"how-imo-villagers-rescued-suspected-kidnappers-from-angry-mob","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/16\/how-imo-villagers-rescued-suspected-kidnappers-from-angry-mob\/","title":{"rendered":"How Imo villagers rescued suspected kidnappers from angry mob"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two suspected kidnappers were rescued from angry mob at Eluokporo, Isuokporo in the Isunjaba community in the Isu Local Government Area of Imo State.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the suspects who were rescued by the villagers were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/15\/siblings-arrested-for-allegedly-beating-brother-to-death-over-late-fathers-property-in-imo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">siblings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to The PUNCH, a source said the suspects were arrested in connection with the kidnap of an old woman, Theresa Anaele, in the village on Tuesday, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/09\/abductors-of-andoni-monarch-releases-video-of-king-aaron-miller-kneeling-reading-out-their-demands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abductors<\/a> demanding N5m ransom.<\/p>\n<p>The source stated that the victim was coming back from a burial she attended in the nearby Amauju village when she was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/14\/video-jubilation-as-13-year-old-boy-kidnapped-in-ogun-regains-freedom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kidnapped<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspects blindfolded her and carried her to a nearby bush in the village.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt took the intervention of some young girls, who had gone to the bush to gather firewood, to discover the missing woman,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>The girls were said to have sent words across to some youth leaders and elders in the community, who came to rescue the woman on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we discovered that two of the perpetrators hail from here, we went after them and quickly rounded up the two, while their two accomplices from Ebonyi State escaped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon the arrest of the two guys, more youths gathered with clubs to deal with them, because some strange things have been happening in this village in recent times. That was how the mob started beating them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mob brought the suspects to the village square with many of them clubbing them, while others brought disused tyres and petrol with which to set the suspects ablaze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspects were, however, rescued from being lynched by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/15\/angry-mob-sets-notorious-burglar-ablaze-in-delta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">angry mob<\/a> by some village leaders, who handed them over to the police,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n<p>The State Police Command spokesperson, Orlando Ikeokwu, when contacted said he had not been briefed about the incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two suspected kidnappers were rescued from angry mob at Eluokporo, Isuokporo in the Isunjaba community in the Isu Local Government Area of Imo State.
