{"id":221510,"date":"2022-10-12T12:11:38","date_gmt":"2022-10-12T11:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=221510"},"modified":"2022-10-12T12:11:38","modified_gmt":"2022-10-12T11:11:38","slug":"nigerian-man-arrested-in-cambodia-for-allegedly-defrauding-woman-of-5000-on-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/12\/nigerian-man-arrested-in-cambodia-for-allegedly-defrauding-woman-of-5000-on-facebook\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian man arrested in Cambodia for allegedly defrauding woman of $5,000 on Facebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nigerian man identified simply as &#8216;Kel Chi&#8217;, has been arrested in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for allegedly defrauding a woman of $5,000 on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>The 37-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday morning, October 11, 2022 by the light criminal police department of the Ministry of Interior and sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal action.<\/p>\n<p>According to local media, the 24-year-old victim, Un Srey Net, was approached with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/11\/nigerian-man-poses-as-woman-on-facebook-dupes-indian-man-of-n31m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> account named Don Richard in August 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2022, Don Richard\u2019s Facebook account told the victim that he wanted to send some supplies and money from Korea to the victim by air.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-221517 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/10\/kunlenet07\/2022\/10\/12\/Kel-Chi-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"939\" height=\"598\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/10\/kunlenet07\/2022\/10\/12\/Kel-Chi-2.jpg 939w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/10\/kunlenet07\/2022\/10\/12\/Kel-Chi-2-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/10\/kunlenet07\/2022\/10\/12\/Kel-Chi-2-768x489.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 939px) 100vw, 939px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The victim then received a phone call from a man claiming to be a customs officer at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/29\/nigerian-man-arrested-in-cambodia-over-romance-scam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phnom Penh<\/a> Airport, saying that $10,000 was needed to pay tax on the imported items.<\/p>\n<p>The family of the victim sent $5,000 via a remittance service but then became suspicious and contacted authorities, which resulted in the arrest of Mr Chi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nigerian man identified simply as &#8216;Kel Chi&#8217;, has been arrested in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for allegedly defrauding a woman of $5,000 on Facebook.
