The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been praised by Senator Orji Kalu (APC-Abia North) for calling off its eight-month strike.<\/p>\n
The Senate Chief Whip urged the Federal Government and ASUU to find common ground in order to avert further strikes.<\/p>\n
Kalu praised the government’s executive and legislative branches for their ongoing communication with the universities union.<\/p>\n
The lawmaker said being an advocate of quality and affordable education, he had been in regular engagement with the union.<\/p>\n
\u201cBoth parties must establish a common ground to avoid any strike in the future\u201d, his statement reads.<\/p>\n
Kalu stressed that education is a panacea for development and must be a top priority in the policy thrust.<\/p>\n
Noting that the government has financial challenges, he charged the authorities to do their best to improve the quality of education.<\/p>\n
