{"id":223188,"date":"2022-10-20T15:24:56","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T14:24:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=223188"},"modified":"2022-10-20T15:24:56","modified_gmt":"2022-10-20T14:24:56","slug":"we-are-yet-to-ban-okada-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/20\/we-are-yet-to-ban-okada-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"We are yet to ban Okada \u2013 FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has said it is yet to slam a ban on operation of commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada, as a mean of public transportation in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of State for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, clarified this at the annual strategic stakeholders summit of the Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle &amp; Motorcycle Owners, Repairs &amp; Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government, while proffering solutions to ending banditry in the country, during a National Security Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said it was considering a nationwide ban on Okada operation, alleging that the mode of transportation was making crimes to escalate.<\/p>\n<p>However, while making his remarks at the ACOMORAN\u2019s stakeholders\u2019 summit, Adegoroye said the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has not taken any decision on the ban.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the grace of God, I\u2019ve been a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the highest decision-making body in this country today and I\u2019ve been there now since July. I was appointed June, I became member and I attended my first FEC on the 6th of July this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me assure you and assure ACOMORAN that there is no decision to ban Okada,\u201d the Minister said.<\/p>\n<p>While congratulating the President of ACOMORAN, Prince Samsudeen Apelogun,<br \/>\non the event, the Minister added: \u201cThere are a few issues I will like to make comments on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Federal government under the leadership of our father and our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, is also desirous of putting in place a mass transit system that will not fail like those of the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is true that several governments in the past have done one or two things to promote mass transit and ensure that our people are able to move from one place to the other seamlessly and easily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut nobody is a repository of knowledge, nobody has monopoly of wisdom. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/25\/the-danger-of-banning-motorcycles-in-nigeria-acomoran-warns-fg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACOMORAN<\/a> also have a right and a duty to this country.
