{"id":223309,"date":"2022-10-21T05:00:47","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T04:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=223309"},"modified":"2022-10-21T09:48:47","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T08:48:47","slug":"lagos-teenagers-remanded-over-murder-of-rccg-pastor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/21\/lagos-teenagers-remanded-over-murder-of-rccg-pastor\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos: Teenagers remanded over murder of RCCG pastor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two teenagers, Farouk Mohammed, 16, and Kasali Jamiu, 19, has been remanded at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, and the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Sherifat Sonaike of Lagos High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, remanded them after they were charged with the murder of a Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor, Babatunde Dada.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that the suspects, who claimed to be upcoming musicians,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/01\/teenage-artistes-stab-lagos-rccg-pastor-to-death-during-robbery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stabbed the 46-year-old pastor to death<\/a>\u00a0on December 2, 2021, and fled with his bag containing some money.<\/p>\n<p>The duo were first charged on January 12, 2022, before a Yaba Chief Magistrate\u2019s Court alongside two others, Mumuni Toheeb, 21, and Mubarak Soliu, 20, for allegedly receiving a Spark S Techno phone valued at N60,000, property of the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>On February 14, when the case came up, Chief Magistrate Olatunbosun Adeola said a prema facie case had been established against Mohammed and Jamiu.<\/p>\n<p>She ordered that the two teenagers should face trial at the High Court following the legal advice from the DPP.<\/p>\n<p>Adeola, however, discharged Toheeb and Soliu based on the recommendation of the DPP.<\/p>\n<p>When the matter came up on Thursday, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr Babajide Martins, informed the court that the matter was for arraignment.<\/p>\n<p>Oyekanmi Isijola announced appearance for the first defendant, while Mr I. G. Ofoyeju appeared for the second defendant.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants were arraigned on four counts bordering on conspiracy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/02\/update-decomposed-bodies-of-two-missing-women-found-buried-in-office-of-kwara-doctor-arrested-for-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">murder<\/a>, murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_129692\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-129692\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-129692\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/01\/kunlenet07\/2022\/01\/04\/Pastor-Babatunde-Dada.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/01\/kunlenet07\/2022\/01\/04\/Pastor-Babatunde-Dada.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/01\/kunlenet07\/2022\/01\/04\/Pastor-Babatunde-Dada-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/01\/kunlenet07\/2022\/01\/04\/Pastor-Babatunde-Dada-768x438.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-129692\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pastor Babatunde Dada<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Martins told the court that the defendants conspired among themselves and allegedly killed Dada in December 2, 2021, around 12noon, in the RCCG, Road 13, 6th Avenue, FESTAC area of Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>He said they killed the deceased by hitting him on the head with a wooden plank and a bottle.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor also told the court that the duo robbed the deceased of his bag and a mobile phone.<\/p>\n<p>Following their arraignment, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>In view of their pleas, Justice Sonaike ordered their remand in custody and adjourned the case till November 29 for trial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two teenagers, Farouk Mohammed, 16, and Kasali Jamiu, 19, has been remanded at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, and the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, respectively.
