{"id":224051,"date":"2022-10-24T10:54:09","date_gmt":"2022-10-24T09:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=224051"},"modified":"2022-10-24T10:54:09","modified_gmt":"2022-10-24T09:54:09","slug":"ifad-announces-5m-grant-to-assist-flood-victims-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/24\/ifad-announces-5m-grant-to-assist-flood-victims-in-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"IFAD announces $5m grant to assist flood victims in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, Monday, announced $5 million grant to assist flood victims in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed by the Vice President, IFAD, Katherine Meighan, during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammad Abubakar, on sidelines of the launch of \u2018Special Agricultural Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Programme in Nigeria\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Meighan expressed concern over the plight of Nigerians affected by the devastating flood, especially farmers at the rural areas.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF) has suggested that tackling climate change would also take care of the flooding in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Director General of NCF, Dr. Joseph Onoja, who spoke to journalists during a tree planting exercise in Awka, Anambra State, said that the successful recovery of the country\u2019s forest reserve will help tackle climate change, and forestall things like the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/24\/fgs-response-to-flooding-weak-slow-kingsley-moghalu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flooding<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn NCF, we thought it wise to launch an ambitious project, which we christened the GRNP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is aimed at restoring Nigeria\u2019s forest cover, so that we will be able to regain our forest cover in the next 30 years.
