{"id":224701,"date":"2022-10-27T10:10:54","date_gmt":"2022-10-27T09:10:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=224701"},"modified":"2022-10-27T10:10:54","modified_gmt":"2022-10-27T09:10:54","slug":"emigration-no-bilateral-agreement-signed-with-uk-says-mdcn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/27\/emigration-no-bilateral-agreement-signed-with-uk-says-mdcn\/","title":{"rendered":"Emigration: No bilateral agreement signed with UK, says MDCN"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has debunked reports claiming that the council signed a\u00a0bilateral agreement with the UK government restricting the emigration of doctors.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The disclaimer was issued by the MDCN hours after it posted some pictures announcing that some officials of the council visited the GMC, UK.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">A Twitter user @doctorisonu, had on Wednesday, tweeted that \u201cI\u2019m hearing that the visit of the Nigeria MDCN team to the UK \u2026there was a bilateral agreement between Nigeria and UK government that before any Nigerian doctor can practice and be registered in the UK, they must have worked in Nigeria for 10 years.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">However, the council on its Facebook page said, \u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/25\/just-in-social-media-app-whatsapp-suffers-another-global-outage\/\">social media<\/a> was flooded with fake news and misinterpretations over MDCN\u2019s visit to the General Medical Council, UK.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cWe have a lot of useful discussions amongst which is the possibility of the UK government repatriating some funds in line with global health initiatives from Nigerian doctors who were trained with taxpayers\u2019 funds.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cDiscussion around stemming the tide of brain drain also took place.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cTherefore, the rumour about a bilateral agreement that all Nigerian \u2013 trained doctors must practice in Nigeria for at least 10 years before being qualified to live and work in the UK or elsewhere is FALSE, uncalled for, mischievous and should be totally disregarded.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cHowever, no form of agreement was signed.\u201d<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has debunked reports claiming that the council signed a\u00a0bilateral agreement with the UK government restricting the emigration of doctors.
