{"id":225940,"date":"2022-11-01T12:43:02","date_gmt":"2022-11-01T11:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=225940"},"modified":"2022-11-01T12:43:20","modified_gmt":"2022-11-01T11:43:20","slug":"stay-of-execution-nnamdi-kanu-to-approach-supreme-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/01\/stay-of-execution-nnamdi-kanu-to-approach-supreme-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Stay of execution: Nnamdi Kanu to approach Supreme Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu is to approach the Supreme Court over the stay of execution order by the Federal Government following the Court of Appeal judgement freeing him from detention.<\/p>\n<p>Kanu\u2019s lawyer, Barr Ifeanyi Ejiofor, in a statement to the media, Monday, said he has asked his team of lawyers to file a suit at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/28\/breaking-acourt-moves-nnamdi-kanu-case-to-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supreme Court<\/a> to challenge the stay of execution order.<br \/>\nEjiofor disclosed that Kanu gave the order when they visited him in Kanu\u2019s DSS dungeon on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI visited Onyendu today at the Headquarters of the State Security Service (DSS) Abuja, to specifically brief him on the outcome of the Court of Appeal ruling of Friday last week, staying the execution of Onyendu\u2019s Appeal Court Judgement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApart from critical legal strategies which will remain private, Onyendu did not hesitate in giving our legal team a nod to immediately proceed with an appeal at the Supreme Court against the ruling of the Court of Appeal staying the execution of its Judgement, which expectedly, is to be heard under the Supreme Court Fast Track Rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProcedures towards an expeditious hearing of the appeal were agreed upon and we are very hopeful that it shall still end in praises, God being our Helper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we had earlier stated, be assured that the Court of Appeal Judgement which vindicated\u00a0 Onyendu, and consequently discharged him of every bogus allegation, still subsists, it has not been set aside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnyendu\u2019s legal team eminently led by Chief Mike Ozekome will vigorously pursue an appeal at the Supreme Court against the ruling of the Court of Appeal staying the execution of Onyendu\u2019s landmark victory at the Court of Appeal,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu is to approach the Supreme Court over the stay of execution order by the Federal Government following the Court of Appeal judgement freeing him from detention.
