Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Bola Tinubu, as an absent candidate.<\/p>\n

According to spokesman Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president stated on Wednesday that Nigerians will not elect a “ghost President.”<\/p>\n

Shaibu accused Tinubu of avoiding public scrutiny and using proxies to answer questions that only candidates should answer.<\/p>\n

The reaction followed the former Lagos governor\u2019s town hall meeting with the Organized Private Sector (OPS).<\/p>\n

Shaibu said Tinubu \u201cdodged\u201d the Lagos Chamber of Commerce Industry (LCCI) invitation but \u201corganized his own\u201d at Eko Hotel and Suites, the same venue of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference he failed to attend.<\/p>\n

The aide said after reading out his speech, Tinubu sat on the high table and systematically avoided questions.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis aides spoke more than he did at the event, an indication that he didn\u2019t even need to be there in the first place.<\/p>\n

\u201cClearly Tinubu plans to run a proxy government in the unfortunate event that he wins the presidential election\u201d.<\/p>\n

Shaibu recalled that at the KADInvest programme in October, Tinubu spoke about how Governor Nasir El-Rufai turned a \u201crotten situation to a bad one\u201d.<\/p>\n

The aide said last year in Kano, Tinubu revealed his plan to recruit 50 million youths into the military in order to tackle unemployment.<\/p>\n

Shaibu further recalled when the APC candidate advised Nigerians to renew their expired Permanent Voters\u2019 Cards (PVC).<\/p>\n

The comment made the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a rebuttal.<\/p>\n

The PDP said Nigerians will not overlook ominous signs, \u201cthe reason Tinubu\u2019s handlers have continued to shield him from open public engagements<\/a> and scrutiny\u201d.<\/p>\n

The opposition further denounced the APC co-founder\u2019s argument that he doesn\u2019t need physical strength to lead, but mental capacity.<\/p>\n

Noting that citizens have suffered from APC\u2019s \u201cseven-year misrule\u201d, Atiku\u2019s camp hopes Tinubu will be bold to attend a presidential debate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
