{"id":226437,"date":"2022-11-03T06:35:54","date_gmt":"2022-11-03T05:35:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=226437"},"modified":"2022-11-03T06:35:54","modified_gmt":"2022-11-03T05:35:54","slug":"abuja-pos-operator-jailed-for-withdrawing-n97000-from-customers-account","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/03\/abuja-pos-operator-jailed-for-withdrawing-n97000-from-customers-account\/","title":{"rendered":"Abuja POS operator jailed for withdrawing N97,000 from customer\u2019s account"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A POS operator, Eunice Owonibi, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for withdrawing N97,000 from a customer\u2019s bank\u2019s account without consent in Ushafa community in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year-old defendant was convicted on Wednesday for debiting the amount using the customer\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/27\/rivers-suspected-fraudster-arrested-for-atm-card-swap-n640000-withdrawal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATM card<\/a>, while the customer had requested for only N3,000 withdrawal from her account.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecuting counsel, Ojo Idowu Esq, told the court that the defendant told the customer, Faith Okpanachi, from the same community, that the withdrawal was not successful due to bad network, only for the customer to later discover that N97,000 was debited from her account.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge, Abdulrahman Ibrahim, said the court was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the suspect was guilty of the crime going by a bank account statement bearing the complainant\u2019s name tendered by the prosecutor which indicated that the withdrawal was made.<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, sentenced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/09\/16\/charm-carrying-fraudster-targeting-pos-operators-arrested-in-anambra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">POS operator<\/a> to six months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>Owonibi was equally ordered to pay N97,000 to the complainant, being the amount she was found to have illegally withdrawn from her account.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A POS operator, Eunice Owonibi, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for withdrawing N97,000 from a customer\u2019s bank\u2019s account without consent in Ushafa community in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
