{"id":226779,"date":"2022-11-04T12:07:50","date_gmt":"2022-11-04T11:07:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=226779"},"modified":"2022-11-18T06:00:13","modified_gmt":"2022-11-18T05:00:13","slug":"three-governors-under-our-watch-over-stashed-cash-efcc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/04\/three-governors-under-our-watch-over-stashed-cash-efcc\/","title":{"rendered":"Three governors under our watch over stashed cash \u2013 EFCC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa has said three serving state governors are under monitoring over moves to launder cash through table payment of salaries to workers.<\/p>\n<p>Bawa, who stated this during an interview with Daily Trust did not reveal the identities of the three governors.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/01\/breaking-efcc-raids-abuja-bureaux-de-change-offices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EFCC<\/a> boss said two of them were from the North, while the third one was from the southern part of the country.<\/p>\n<p>He added that intelligence at the agency\u2019s disposal revealed that the three governors had concluded plans to inject the money into the system through table payment of their state workers\u2019 salaries.<\/p>\n<p>Bawa said, \u201cLet me tell you something; the Intel that I have yesterday and I would want you to take this thing very seriously. Already, some state governors have some of this cash stashed in various houses and the rest are now trying to pay salaries in cash in their state,\u201d he told Daily Trust.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether the commission would summon the said governors, Bawa simply said they were closely monitoring them.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cI don\u2019t know how they want to achieve that but we have to stop them from doing that. Well, we are working, they have not paid the salaries in cash yet but it is a very serious thing,\u201d he said, noting that the act was against section 2 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/29\/how-atiku-travelled-to-us-despite-alleged-money-laundering-omokri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Money Laundering<\/a> Prohibition Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe law is very clear regarding cash transactions. Anybody that is to consummate any cash transaction as an individual, if it is not through a financial institution, must not be above N5m and if it is above that it is criminal for you to engage in such transaction. And for corporate entities, it is N10m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I agree the salaries are not up to that but why are you all of a sudden, and all along you have been paying people salaries through their bank accounts and now you want to pay them in cash, what are you trying to do?
