Concerns about couples who continue to live in debt after their wedding ceremonies have been expressed by a cross-section of Abuja residents.<\/p>\n
They shared their findings in separate interviews on Sunday in Abuja with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).<\/p>\n
They claim that many couples step outside of their comfort zones and take out loans to have extravagant weddings, which they then have to pay off over the course of their lifetimes.<\/p>\n
A father of three from Utako named Mr. Abimbola Odunayo claimed that a wedding is not a place for guests to have fun but rather a ritual when two individuals are united in marriage.<\/p>\n
Odunayo declared that he was not against extravagant weddings and recommended that those couples who could afford them go through with it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI won\u2019t advise my son who will soon get married to spend all his money to have a flamboyant wedding, rather, he should have a small wedding and save for the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think those who borrow to have a big wedding just want to show off and feel like they belong,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Victoria Onifade, a Civil Servant, said that she prefers having a court marriage because it still entails blessing the union.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome couples use the ceremony as an avenue to make money that is being sprayed during the event to settle debts.\u201d<\/p>\n
Juliet Osita, ho just wedded, said she and her husband planned and saved towards their wedding, so they did not have to borrow.<\/p>\n
Osita said that those who have the funds to organise a lavish wedding should go for it and have a wedding of their dreams.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cOne should be able to feed well after the wedding and not the other way round.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople should try and consider their pocket so they don\u2019t end up paying for a loan instead of enjoying their marriage,\u201d she warned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
