{"id":22731,"date":"2021-04-17T17:39:45","date_gmt":"2021-04-17T16:39:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=22731"},"modified":"2021-04-17T17:39:45","modified_gmt":"2021-04-17T16:39:45","slug":"jonah-jang-counters-aliyu-says-not-all-northern-pdp-governors-worked-against-jonathan-in-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/17\/jonah-jang-counters-aliyu-says-not-all-northern-pdp-governors-worked-against-jonathan-in-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Jonah Jang counters Aliyu, says Not all northern PDP governors worked against Jonathan in 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang has countered the claim that all the northern Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors worked against ex-president Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 elections.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jonah Jang,\u00a0he was not part of those who worked against Jonathan\u2019s re-election bid, contrary to the claim of Babangida Aliyu, ex-governor of Niger.<\/p>\n<p>The former governor of Niger, Aliyu on Friday had stated that\u00a0the PDP governors in northern states opposed Jonathan\u2019s bid for a second term because he reneged on their agreement not to seek another tenure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince this was against the grain of our earlier agreement in the party, and which we the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/17\/why-northern-pdp-governors-worked-against-jonathans-re-election-ex-niger-governor\/\">governors<\/a> in the north felt the North would have been shortchanged if Jonathan had succeeded, we rose stoutly to insist on the agreement we all had,\u201d he had said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn that premise, we opposed Jonathan. But all along, Goodluck Jonathan had enjoyed every support from the governors in the north and the entire region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But reacting via Clinton Garuba, his spokesman, Jang, who was governing Plateau at the time, said he was not part of any meeting where the governors agreed to work against Jonathan.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement titled, \u2018Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu lied\u2019, he argued that he had supported Jonathan in 2015 \u201cespecially when his opponent was General Buhari.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the avoidance of doubt, despite the perceived shortcomings of President Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Jonah believed that Jonathan was better equipped to rule Nigeria at the time, especially when his opponent was General Buhari,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJang did not hide his conviction concerning Buhari\u2019s inabilities to resolve the Nation\u2019s challenges and sensitivities of the issues at the moment. Unfortunately, Buhari won and we are all witnesses to the tales of woes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Jang is not one who speaks from both sides of his mouth, rather he speaks and supports only what he believes, little wonder that Plateau was won by President Jonathan in the 2015 general elections, largely due to the hard work of the then governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor emphasis sake, there was no basis for Dr. Jang not to have supported Dr. Jonathan especially when the contest was against General Buhari.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang has countered the claim that all the northern Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors worked against ex-president Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 elections.
