{"id":22873,"date":"2021-04-18T07:47:02","date_gmt":"2021-04-18T06:47:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=22873"},"modified":"2021-04-18T07:47:02","modified_gmt":"2021-04-18T06:47:02","slug":"labour-crisis-caution-registrar-over-interference-cac-staff-implores-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/18\/labour-crisis-caution-registrar-over-interference-cac-staff-implores-presidency\/","title":{"rendered":"Labour crisis: Caution registrar over &#8216;interference&#8217;, CAC staff implores presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The registrar general of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has been accused by the staff of the commission of interfering with the activities of its union.<\/p>\n<p>This accusation was made by the union leadership while addressing journalists on Saturday, the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), the staff in-house union.<\/p>\n<p>The staff uurged the presidency to caution the registrar who they alleged was plotting the removal of some of its leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that there has been a prolonged labour crisis at the commission following a misunderstanding between the management and the staff over issues to do with the unionisation of the workers.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the workers had also accused the agency\u2019s management of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/03\/dokpesis-trial-showed-lopsided-nature-of-buharis-anti-corruption-war-says-atiku\/\">corruption<\/a> and anti-labour activities.<\/p>\n<p>At the briefing in Abuja, Muda Ukpo, acting secretary-general of AUPCTRE, alleged that the registrar general was interfering in the activities of the union by transferring some of its leaders outside Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe union is appealing to the presidency to prevail on the Registrar General to stop his victimisation of its executives and rescind their transfer outside the headquarters, witch hunting and impending outright sack from the commission,\u201d Ukpo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari through his chief of staff, Prof.Ibrahim Gambari, Senate President Ahmed Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives,\u00a0 Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to wade into this crisis and save our jobs.<\/p>\n<p>He also called on the presidency and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to act on an earlier petition and investigate the allegations of abuse of office levelled against Abubakar.<\/p>\n<p>In the earlier petition to the presidency, AUPCTRE had accused the registrar general of \u201cillegally dissolving the union executive and banning them from operating and transferring all executives to different parts of the country to weaken the union.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The petition asked the president to \u201creverse his punitive transfer against CAC workers and be directed to respect constituted authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an ardent believer in dialogue as a way of resolving the industrial crisis, the union has made efforts to meet with Alhaji Garba Abubakar and his management team but has always been rebuffed as he feels too big to meet with the union and understand the grievances of the employees under him,\u201d it had said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The registrar general of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has been accused by the staff of the commission of interfering with the activities of its union.
