{"id":230816,"date":"2022-11-25T08:29:47","date_gmt":"2022-11-25T07:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=230816"},"modified":"2022-11-25T08:29:47","modified_gmt":"2022-11-25T07:29:47","slug":"real-reason-fg-grounded-peter-obi-aircraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/25\/real-reason-fg-grounded-peter-obi-aircraft\/","title":{"rendered":"Real reason FG &#8216;grounded&#8217; Peter Obi\u2019s aircraft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fresh information has emerged about the controversy that trails the grounding of the campaign aircraft of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).<\/p>\n<p>Head of Media of Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation, Mr Diran Onidade, had in a statement decried the development, expressing surprise at the yet \u201cto be explained grounding of its campaign aircraft.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He said the action led to the inability of LP and campaign officials, who had already gathered at Lagos and Abuja airports, to attend the Ibadan rally. <\/p>\n<p>The aircraft with registration number 5Y-HPY is a Bombardier DHC-8-400 aircraft owned by DAC Aviation International, an aircraft leasing company.<\/p>\n<p>Sources familiar with the development said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/23\/just-in-federal-govt-grounds-peter-obis-aircraft\/\">the aircraft was grounded<\/a> for allegedly violating safety procedures by refusing to comply with instruction from the Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) not to depart Benin airport. <\/p>\n<p>It was learnt that the regulatory authority had commenced an investigation into the matter while the aircraft remained grounded in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has nothing to do with politics and NCAA has zero tolerance for regulatory infractions. Aviation is a highly regulated industry and we cannot afford to take any chance because lives are involved,\u201d Daily Trust quoted the source as saying. <\/p>\n<p>The NCAA has not spoken officially on the matter as the Director-General, Capt.
