{"id":230852,"date":"2022-11-25T10:03:45","date_gmt":"2022-11-25T09:03:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=230852"},"modified":"2022-11-25T10:03:45","modified_gmt":"2022-11-25T09:03:45","slug":"frsc-threatens-sanction-against-fleet-operators-over-speed-limit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/25\/frsc-threatens-sanction-against-fleet-operators-over-speed-limit\/","title":{"rendered":"FRSC Threatens Sanction Against Fleet Operators Over Speed Limit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps on Thursday issued a warning to drivers advising them not to tamper with speed limiters.<\/p>\n<p>The caution was delivered during the keynote speech by Dauda Biu, acting Corps Marshal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/16\/fec-approves-n2-578bn-for-frsc-operational-vehicles\/\">FRSC<\/a>, at the 2022 Annual Safety Managers Retreat in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Biu noted that the retreat was primarily intended to address some critical observations made by the Corps regarding the management of fleet operations in the country so far and its attendant consequences. Biu was represented by the Corps Engineering Officer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/10\/frsc-denies-using-pos-for-payment-of-fines\/\">FRSC<\/a>, Assistant Corps Marshal Rindom Kumven.<\/p>\n<p>He added that professional examinations had shown that the recent spate of accidents involving fleet operators in particular would have been prevented if all safety managers had been dedicated to their jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The acting Corps Marshal added that the Corps would not hesitate to sanction violators of speed limiters<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cIt should be noted that the Corps\u2019 recent appraisal of public transportation vis-\u00e0-vis general implementation of the Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme has also revealed an unacceptably low level of effective compliance with installation of the Speed Limiting Device.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLapses observed included non-installation or tampering with the device, connivance with vendors to secure compliance certificates without actual installation, calibration above the approved speed limits and so on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These shall no longer be tolerated as the Corps will not hesitate to sanction <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/21\/lastma-apprehends-two-officers-for-arresting-traffic-violators\/\">violators<\/a> henceforth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the \u2019ember\u2019 month, Biu said, \u201cPlease remember that we are already in the \u2019ember\u2019 months which are usually characterised by increased mobility, a frenzy of activities, pressure to meet targets and unfortunately a period when many drivers (especially commercial drivers) throw caution to the wind by speeding, taking little or no rest at all with its resultant negative consequences (crashes).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is our hope therefore that Safety Managers would do the needful to ensure that their drivers observe all required safety precautions of road use within this period and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps on Thursday issued a warning to drivers advising them not to tamper with speed limiters.
