{"id":231506,"date":"2022-11-28T13:05:35","date_gmt":"2022-11-28T12:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=231506"},"modified":"2022-11-28T13:05:35","modified_gmt":"2022-11-28T12:05:35","slug":"2023-appeal-court-reinstates-adebutu-other-ogun-pdp-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/28\/2023-appeal-court-reinstates-adebutu-other-ogun-pdp-candidates\/","title":{"rendered":"2023: Appeal court reinstates Adebutu, other Ogun PDP candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Peoples Democratic Party&#8217;s governorship candidate in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has been reinstated by the Court of Appeal in Ibadan.<\/p>\n<p>The court also reinstated all other PDP candidates in Ogun by overturning the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/08\/zamfara-governor-reinstates-3-commissioners-board-chairmen\/\">decision<\/a> of an Abeokuta Federal High Court that had declared all PDP primary elections invalid.<\/p>\n<p>Following a suit filed by Segun Seriki and others, Justice Oguntoyinbo declared Adebutu&#8217;s and others&#8217; candidacy null and void.<\/p>\n<p>Ruling on Monday, Justice Folasade Ojo said it is only the National Working Committee of the party that has the power to nominate and conduct a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/24\/ogun-2023-why-i-chose-to-be-on-ballot-with-adebutu-akinlade\/\">primary election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The appellate court maintained that any primary conducted without the approval of the party\u2019s NWC is null and void.<\/p>\n<p>The lower court\u2019s judgment was set aside for lack of jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>Ojo directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to reinstate all PDP candidates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Peoples Democratic Party&#8217;s governorship candidate in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has been reinstated by the Court of Appeal in Ibadan.
