{"id":232053,"date":"2022-11-30T19:23:01","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T18:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=232053"},"modified":"2022-11-30T19:23:01","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T18:23:01","slug":"driver-dies-as-truck-crashes-into-brt-corridor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/30\/driver-dies-as-truck-crashes-into-brt-corridor\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver dies as truck crashes into BRT corridor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The driver of an articulated vehicle died on the spot after the truck conveying a 40 feet container crashed into Bus Rapid Transit demarcation at Oke-Riya inward Agric Bus stop, Ikorodu, Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the accident occurred on Wednesday due to brake failure when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/26\/speeding-truck-driver-kills-2-frsc-officers-in-akwa-ibom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">driver<\/a> lost control leading to his death.<\/p>\n<p>Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident said, \u201cUpon arrival of the Agency\u2019s LRTs to the scene of incident, an articulated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/24\/truck-assistant-dies-in-lagos-lone-road-accident\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">truck<\/a> conveying a 40ft container was discovered involved in a solitary accident at the above mentioned location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe truck with 40ft container crashed on the main road, hitting the BRT demarcation and pedestrian bridge pillar, which effectively shut down the entire expressway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trapped truck driver in the cabin who lost his life in the incident has been extricated with light duty rescue equipment in the ongoing operation and duly handed over to officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agency\u2019s sophisticated heavy-duty equipment are in the process of recovering the crashed articulated vehicle, while an agency\u2019s flat body truck has equally been deployed for recovery of the 40 feet container.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Motorists plying the axis and those with the intent of traversing the area were diverted to alternative routes as directed by emergency responders during the recovery period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The driver of an articulated vehicle died on the spot after the truck conveying a 40 feet container crashed into Bus Rapid Transit demarcation at Oke-Riya inward Agric Bus stop, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
