Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says Nigeria frittered away the goodwill it enjoyed at independence and has not lived up to the billing. <\/p>\n
Speaking on Thursday at the launch of \u2018The Letterman\u2019, a book authored by Musikilu Mojeed, Premium Times editor-in-chief, Obasanjo said Nigerians should not blame God for their problems but themselves.<\/p>\n
The book focuses on letters written by Obasanjo.<\/p>\n
He said when Nigeria gained independence, the expectation was for the nation to be known as \u201ca giant in the sun\u201d and not the \u201cgiant of Africa\u201d as it is being referred to now.<\/p>\n
He, however, said Nigeria has not lived to expectations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen Nigeria became independent, it was a giant in the sun. That was the expectation. Not a giant even in Africa. A giant in the sun. That was the expectation of the world about Nigeria,\u201d Obasanjo said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHave we lived up to it? No. If we haven\u2019t, why haven\u2019t we? I think we probably don\u2019t appreciate what we have as a country and I believe if we do appreciate it and make good use of it, we would do better than we are now.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe the right lessons must be learned. We have all that we need to have. God has given us all that we need to have. That we are not doing what we should do, God is not to blame and we should blame ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
