The chief of defence staff, Lucky Irabor<\/a>, says the military is under pressure to compromise the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n

The defence chief, on the other hand, stated that the military will remain neutral and assist police in monitoring and securing the process.<\/p>\n

Irabor spoke at a ministerial media briefing organized by the presidential communications team on Thursday at the presidential villa in Abuja.<\/p>\n

The defence chief maintained that the military is apolitical, noting that measures are being implemented to ensure they follow President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to remain neutral.<\/p>\n

He stated that personnel are being trained to be more professional and that rules of engagement have been codified and distributed to them before, during, and after the elections.<\/p>\n

Irabor stated that the personnel are also receiving professional election training.<\/p>\n

He also discussed the military’s key achievements in keeping the country safe, such as increased recruitment into all branches of security services, the routing of insurgency and banditry, and the reduction of oil theft.<\/p>\n

Irabor stated that since 2014, over 300,000 people had been freed from abductors, and refugees who fled the northeast due to the insurgency have begun to return.<\/p>\n

According to the CDS, former insurgents who are currently undergoing training will graduate in February 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
