{"id":233944,"date":"2022-12-09T07:33:31","date_gmt":"2022-12-09T06:33:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=233944"},"modified":"2022-12-09T07:33:31","modified_gmt":"2022-12-09T06:33:31","slug":"we-have-disbursed-n15bn-for-lagos-badagry-expressway-reconstruction-nnpc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/12\/09\/we-have-disbursed-n15bn-for-lagos-badagry-expressway-reconstruction-nnpc\/","title":{"rendered":"We have disbursed N15bn for Lagos-Badagry expressway reconstruction \u2013 NNPC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos Badagry Expressway reconstruction project has received N15 billion from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) as part of the federal government&#8217;s Road Infrastructure Tax Credit (RITC) Scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The N15 billion represents the full payment of the NNPC Ltd&#8217;s tax credit funding for the Lagos-Badagry road rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive of NNPC, announced this on Thursday while leading NNPC&#8217;s management team and some top government officials to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation and expansion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway (Agbara Junction-Nigeria\/Benin Border).<\/p>\n<p>The road under rehabilitation is being funded by the NNPC Ltd. under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/04\/lagos-badagry-expressway-reconstruction-on-2021-sukuk-funding-priority-list-fg\/\">Federal Road Infrastructure Developmen<\/a>t and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The execution of the scheme is being carried out in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing as the supervisor and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for NNPC\u2019s tax obligation deductions.<\/p>\n<p>This is in response to addressing the plight faced by petroleum products marketers in transportation which affects nationwide distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Kyari said the fund disbursed was part of the N621.24 billion earmarked for the reconstruction of 21 roads nationwide under the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed satisfaction with the stage of the road development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are covering 1,804.6mkm across the country and taking another set of over a trillion naira investment on infrastructure in Nigeria, believing that with the tax credit system which Mr President has put in place, very soon there will be a massive change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNNPC as the enabler will consider from its cash flow and fund whatever FIRS and Ministry of works approve for the company.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, represented by the Director of Highways, Roads and Rehabilitation of the Ministry, Mr. Folorunsho Esan, said the intervention of the NNPC sped up the reconstruction of the expressway.<\/p>\n<p>Esan said that the project was 40 percent completed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the next 12 months we should be able to deliver this project because the drainages are in place, just for earthworks and pavement works, it cannot take us more than 12 months,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the gridlock being caused by the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project, he said the contractor would clear all impediments and move out of the site by December 15 to make the highway free for Yuletide.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Mrs. Olukorede Keisha, Federal Ministry of Works Engineer supervising the Lagos-Badagry Expressway project, gave a brief of the project, listing the drains, culverts and other construction works done on various stretches.<\/p>\n<p>Oba Israel Okoya, Oba of Ibereko in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/14\/fg-distributes-n20000-each-to-2900-women-in-benue\/\">Badagry Royal Majesty<\/a>, who lauded the Federal Government and NNPC for the intervention said before the reconstruction, the road was in a terrible situation making traffic unbearable for motorists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos Badagry Expressway reconstruction project has received N15 billion from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) as part of the federal government&#8217;s Road Infrastructure Tax Credit (RITC) Scheme.
