One Kazeem Adedayo has been sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his neighbour\u2019s 11-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n
Adebayo, a factory worker, was convicted and sentenced by Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday for inserting his fingers into the teenager\u2019s private part. <\/p>\n
Justice Abiola Soladoye, in her judgement, held that the prosecution successfully proved the charge of sexual assault by penetration against Adedayo.<\/p>\n
According to NAN, Soladoye said evidence from the survivor corroborated a medical report that the survivor suffered repeated penetration.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe testimony of the survivor was truthful as she identified the defendant as \u2018Baba Jamal\u2019 and also gave a vivid account of how he inserted his fingers into her vagina while fetching water in the compound.<\/p>\n
\u201cA medical examination carried out by Doctor Oyedeji Alagbe also revealed a reddened and bruised vagina as the hymen was almost obliterated.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe defendant was unable to explain why he was the only one pointed at, in a house full of tenants, as the perpetrator of the heinous crime.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvidence of the second defence witness, the defendant\u2019s sister, is unreliable as she does not live with his brother and has no idea when the alleged fingering occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n
The judge held that the prosecution proved the ingredients of the case against the defendant, saying that the survivor could not have consented to any sexual act with the defendant.<\/p>\n
She added that two exhibits \u2013 A and B \u2013 tendered before the court, which were statements of the defendant and the survivor, were unambiguous.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis honourable court is convinced that the overwhelming evidence is compelling as the survivor identified the defendant in the dock.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hereby find the defendant guilty as charged, and he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment,\u201d Soladoye said.<\/p>\n
The prosecution team led by Olusola Shoneye, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, presented three witnesses during the trial while the defence presented two.<\/p>\n
