{"id":235120,"date":"2022-12-14T19:00:05","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T18:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=235120"},"modified":"2022-12-14T19:00:05","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T18:00:05","slug":"how-i-escaped-during-kano-mosque-attack-imam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/12\/14\/how-i-escaped-during-kano-mosque-attack-imam\/","title":{"rendered":"How I escaped during Kano mosque attack &#8211; Imam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Grand Imam of Kano Emirate, Prof. Sani Zahradeen has revealed how he escaped Boko Haram attack during Jumu\u2019at prayers at Kano Central Mosque in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that Boko Haram militants detonated multiple bombs and shot worshippers to death on November 28, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Over 200 people died in the attack which was believed to have been targeted at the dethroned emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.<\/p>\n<p>Prof Zahradeen, who led Jumu\u2019at prayers on that day said the attack lasted for one hour.<\/p>\n<p>Narrating the incident in an interview with Trust TV, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/12\/02\/update-they-shot-me-and-abducted-our-imam-delta-mosque-survivor-speaks-from-hospital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Imam<\/a> said, \u201cThat is about seven years ago which is 28 November 2014, I finished reading the Khudba (sermon) and (we are) about to start praying, when I said Allahu Akbar (Allah is the greatest) then I heard BOOM behind me but I didn\u2019t realized that there was anything.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut later on before I started reading (Qur\u2019an), people started saying Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar in the back, my son was trying to see what was going on, some people were crying and (there was) shots outside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy son who took me to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/12\/05\/imam-worshipper-shot-many-abducted-as-bandits-attack-mosque-in-katsina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mosque<\/a> came in trying to go outside then I said no no they were shooting outside, we stayed in the mosque for about one hour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked where was the emir at that moment, the former Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, said, \u201cThe emir was not in the mosque at that time, he was not in the country, he was performing lesser hajj but he heard about it, he called me and said \u2018I just heard what happened, we were finishing up, I was on way tomorrow Insha Allah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On number of died, the Imam said, \u201cOfficial they said more than 100 people died but somebody told me there was more than 500 casualties, so today is the 7th anniversary and Insha Allah we will pray for the dead souls.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Grand Imam of Kano Emirate, Prof. Sani Zahradeen has revealed how he escaped Boko Haram attack during Jumu\u2019at prayers at Kano Central Mosque in 2014.
