{"id":235671,"date":"2022-12-17T06:35:32","date_gmt":"2022-12-17T05:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=235671"},"modified":"2022-12-17T06:35:32","modified_gmt":"2022-12-17T05:35:32","slug":"2023-gombe-govt-releases-total-debt-figure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/12\/17\/2023-gombe-govt-releases-total-debt-figure\/","title":{"rendered":"2023: Gombe Govt releases total debt figure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Gombe government has corrected what it sees as false information being spread by the opposition by releasing accurate data regarding the state&#8217;s debt profile.<\/p>\n<p>The information was provided by Mr. Muhammad Magaji, the State&#8217;s Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development, along with information on the N176.01 billion 2023 budget that State Governor Inuwa Yahaya signed into law on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Magaji claims that even though Gombe&#8217;s debt profile is visible on the Debt Management Office (DMO) website, some people have persisted in disseminating false information in the name of politics.<\/p>\n<p>The state government, he said, had inherited a debt of over N124 billion from the previous administration, but the current administration was working to pay off the debt and restore the state&#8217;s financial viability.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/01\/go-after-bandits-like-you-did-for-nnamdi-kanu-wike-tells-fg\/\">state\u2019s debt profile<\/a> currently is N120 billion and \u201cthis is verifiable and accessible to everyone who visits the DMO.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the figure of N432 billion being peddled as Gombe\u2019s debt was false.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe debt profile of Gombe State is just at about N120 billion; it is verifiable\u201d, he clarified.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner stated that the current administration had been servicing the huge debt it inherited and \u201cin 2023 budget, N18.21 billion, representing 10.35 per cent of the total budget, will be used to service debt\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the state government has continued to pay salaries and pensions, settling backlogs of gratuities owed since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>He encouraged residents of the state not to listen to the fake news being peddled around.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Gombe government has corrected what it sees as false information being spread by the opposition by releasing accurate data regarding the state&#8217;s debt profile.
