{"id":2374,"date":"2021-03-02T13:13:33","date_gmt":"2021-03-02T12:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=2374"},"modified":"2021-03-02T13:13:33","modified_gmt":"2021-03-02T12:13:33","slug":"delta-court-sentences-two-internet-fraudsters-to-two-years-imprisonment-each","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/02\/delta-court-sentences-two-internet-fraudsters-to-two-years-imprisonment-each\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta court sentences two internet fraudsters to two years imprisonment each"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta state on Monday, March 1 has convicted and sentenced two internet fraudsters to two years imprisonment each without an option of fine.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the two internet fraudsters were prosecuted before Justice Emeka Nwite by the\u00a0Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a separate two-count charge bordering on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/22\/fake-soldier-who-assaulted-lagos-task-force-operatives-bags-6-weeks-jail-term\/\">impersonation<\/a> and obtaining by false pretenses.<\/p>\n<p>One of the counts against Edebiri reads: <em>&#8220;That you Osas Edebiri (alias Stephen Michael ) on or between the month of December 2019 , within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did had in your possession documents containing false pretence to wit; Fraudulent\/scammed mails found in your Galaxy J2 phone with IMEI number 352502\/08\/236782\/1 and 352503\/08\/236782\/9, with serial number RVIH70YM14P in your email\u00a0edebiriosas@gmail.com\u00a0with several subject titles which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3)of the same Act.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The duo upon arraignment pleaded \u2018guilty\u2019 to the charge, prompting the prosecution counsel, F. Dibang to pray the court to convict and sentence the defendants accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>However, counsel to the defendants, P.
