Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has warned Northerners against voting for politicians who will attack and kill bandits wreaking havoc across the region.<\/p>\n

Gumi said bandits are warriors who shouldn\u2019t be killed but negotiated with.<\/p>\n

The Islamic cleric disclosed this during one of his recent sermons.<\/p>\n

He added that Northerners should vote politicians who will grant amnesty to bandits<\/a> and give them what them want for peace to reign<\/p>\n

\u201cDon’t vote for those who will fight bandits. The fighters are our warriors in the forest\u2026\u2026. Our people in the forest.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo vote for those who after attaining power will call and negotiate with our people (bandits) so as to give them what they want for peace to reign.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recall that Gumi<\/a> visited bandits in the forest of Zamfara and Kaduna states in an attempt to negotiate a peace deal with them.<\/p>\n

He has asked the Nigerian government several times to grant amnesty to bandits as it gave to Niger Delta militants.<\/p>\n

According to the Islamic cleric, military action against criminal herdsmen and bandits will not solve the security challenge, but \u201cwill only worsen the situation\u201d.<\/p>\n
