No fewer than 10 persons lost their lives in a road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday. <\/p>\n
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Oyo State, Joshua Adekanye, disclosed that six other persons were injured in the crash. <\/p>\n
He made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ibadan.<\/p>\n
Adekanye said the lone accident which lhappened around 6.30am on Tuesday around the Guru Mahajji area, involved a commercial bus with registration number TRK 135 ZY and a hit-and-run truck carrying a container.<\/p>\n
He said the commercial bus which was travelling overnight from Malumfashi, Katsina State, suddenly came across the truck carrying a container that was driving against traffic.<\/p>\n
Adekanye said to avoid the truck, the bus hit the container and fell into a ditch resulting in the death of 10 persons and injuring six others while the truck ran away.<\/p>\n
He said the total number of people involved in the accident were 18, comprising 17 male adults and a male child.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople killed in the accident are 10 male adults.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople injured are six, including five male adults and one male child, while two adult males were unhurt,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The sector commander said the injured persons have been taken to Ibadan Central Hospital for medical attention while the dead have been deposited at the Adeoyo Hospital morgue.<\/p>\n
He said that the police division at the tollgate area of Ibadan had taken charge of the crashed vehicle.<\/p>\n
The sector commander called on motorists to always shun night travels and driving against traffic, saying the accident might not have happened if the bus was not travelling overnight from Kastina State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
