Suspected political thugs in Ogun State have been cautioned by the police to stop defacing candidate billboards and posters.<\/p>\n

According to a statement made by the police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Wednesday, some thugs vandalized the APC’s campaign billboards the week before.<\/p>\n

The police issued a warning, saying, “Those responsible for the nefarious act must desist immediately or prepare to face the terrible repercussions of their acts.”<\/p>\n

“Therefore, anyone found committing any conduct that threatens the state’s atmosphere of peace will face harsh punishment in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n

“Anyone who tries to undermine our determination in this matter will be held accountable.<\/p>\n

\u201cPoliticians are also by this release advised to play the game according to the rules, and call their supporters to do same to avoid dire consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some men suspected to be members of the APC were caught on camera as they destroyed the campaign materials of the PDP governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu.<\/p>\n

In the video, the men were seen removing the posters and mini billboards.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred in Iperu, in the Ikenne Local Government Area which is the home town of both the APC and PDP governorship candidates.<\/p>\n

Governor Dapo Abiodun is seeking re-election on the platform of the APC.<\/p>\n

In the video, the young men said they would not allow any PDP posters on their street.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnybody should be careful, I will bring guns and shoot anybody. I have no time for madness,\u201d one of the men is heard saying in Yoruba language.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the development, the PDP condemned it as an attempt to undermine peace in the state.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson of the Adebutu\/Akinlade campaign Organisation, Afolabi Orekoya, condemned the development in a statement.<\/p>\n

He called on security agencies to caution the political thugs.<\/p>\n

In his reaction, the APC<\/a> spokesperson, Tunde Oladunjoye, described the PDP\u2019s allegation as laughable.<\/p>\n

He said the PDP<\/a> had earlier destroyed APC posters and other campaign materials<\/p>\n

The APC spokesperson also forwarded videos of destroyed APC billboards and posters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PDP allegation is not only laughable, it makes no sense. The party is already down and riddled with crisis. It\u2019s not in our style to kick someone who is already on the floor.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur journalists should be up and doing and not just make platforms available for all sorts of lies and beer-parlour gossip.\u201d<\/p>\n
