The spokesman for Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Olisa Ifeajika, stated on Monday that if five disgruntled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors endorse a presidential candidate other than Atiku Abubakar, appropriate action would be taken against them.<\/p>\n
Ifeajika made the remarks during a press conference in Asaba on Monday.<\/p>\n
Ifeajika responded to the aggrieved governors’ call for the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign, saying that no law requires Ayu to resign because Atiku is from the north.<\/p>\n
He also stated that Ayu can voluntarily resign from office and will not be forced to do so by the governors.<\/p>\n
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and his allies have urged Ayu to resign over northern dominance in key positions within the party.<\/p>\n
Ifeajika, speaking on the call for Ayu to resign, said;<\/strong><\/p>\n In Rivers state where Wike holds sway as Governor, the Governorship candidate is from Rivers South and the Chairman of the party in the state is also from Rivers South.<\/em><\/p>\n We didn\u2019t see Wike tell the party Chairman to step aside because a governorship candidate emerged from the same senatorial district with him.<\/em><\/p>\n It becomes germane if Atiku emerges President and the party Chairman remains in office.
