{"id":239761,"date":"2023-01-06T12:58:53","date_gmt":"2023-01-06T11:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=239761"},"modified":"2023-01-06T12:58:53","modified_gmt":"2023-01-06T11:58:53","slug":"we-have-no-case-against-inec-chairman-says-dss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/06\/we-have-no-case-against-inec-chairman-says-dss\/","title":{"rendered":"We have no case against INEC chairman, says DSS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of State Services (DSS) has stated that it is not suing Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n<p>The DSS said in a brief statement issued by its spokesman, Peter Afunanya, that a recent publication with the headline &#8220;Court Stops DSS from Arresting INEC Chairman&#8221; had skewed facts.<\/p>\n<p>According to the DSS imagemaker, the Service expressed its displeasure to the editors of the newspaper that published the story, and a promised agreement was reached to address the concerns raised; however, those concerns have yet to be resolved.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Afunanya emphasized that his communique has become critical in guiding public understanding and perception, particularly given that the aforementioned report is misleading.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt falsely left an impression that the Service went to Court against the INEC Chairman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNonetheless, the Service is aware of the antics of some mischievous elements who are desirous of fomenting crisis in the country, including creating unnecessary controversies around the forthcoming general elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of their strategies is to subvert the efforts of the Service in ensuring peaceful coexistence and harmony. Another is a determination to overheat the polity and subtly exploit the judiciary to distract or even undermine not only the Service but other security and law enforcement agencies from undertaking their constitutional roles,\u201d the communique partly read.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/04\/just-in-dss-nabs-masterminds-of-explosion-at-ohinoyi-palace-in-okene\/\">DSS<\/a>, therefore, warned these individuals and groups to desist from their devious plans. It also advised all critical stakeholders to be vigilant and resist attempts to use them to thwart the law.<\/p>\n<p>While assuring Nigerians and the International Community of the Service\u2019s commitment to the maintenance of law and order, including an accomplishment of a free and fair 2023 election as already pledged by Mr President and Commander-in-Chief, the Service urged all and sundry to join in the pursuit of national stability and unity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of State Services (DSS) has stated that it is not suing Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
