{"id":240301,"date":"2023-01-09T05:36:28","date_gmt":"2023-01-09T04:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=240301"},"modified":"2023-01-09T08:19:02","modified_gmt":"2023-01-09T07:19:02","slug":"man-remanded-for-killing-wife-over-sachet-water-in-lagos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/09\/man-remanded-for-killing-wife-over-sachet-water-in-lagos\/","title":{"rendered":"Man remanded for killing wife over sachet water in Lagos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 49-year-old man, Lawrence Itakpe, has been remanded in custody for 30 days for allegedly killing his wife, Rebecca, over sachet water at their house in the Ajah area of Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect and the deceased, who were said to be married for 11 years with two kids, had an argument over sachet water.<\/p>\n<p>During the argument, the suspect rushed into the kitchen and returned with a kitchen knife, with which he allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/09\/18\/man-stabbed-by-wifes-lesbian-partner-buried-in-onitsha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stabbed<\/a>\u00a0his wife multiple times in the chest and neck.<\/p>\n<p>A security guard was reported to have knocked on the couple\u2019s door while the argument was on, but the defendant allegedly refused to open the door.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence was arraigned before a Yaba Magistrates\u2019 Court, on one count of murder.<\/p>\n<p>The police prosecutor, Inspector Haruna Magaji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 5, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The charge read, \u201cThat you, Lawrence Itakpe, on December 5, 2022, around 5pm at 50, Abimbola Street, Seaside Estate, Badore Ajah, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully slaughter one Rebecca Itakpe, aged 47, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Magaji asked the court to remand the defendant in custody for 30 days pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.<\/p>\n<p>Granting the request, the presiding Chief Magistrate, O.Y.
