{"id":240521,"date":"2023-01-10T04:55:51","date_gmt":"2023-01-10T03:55:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=240521"},"modified":"2023-01-10T04:55:51","modified_gmt":"2023-01-10T03:55:51","slug":"nigeria-to-stop-importing-petroleum-products-by-q1-2024-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/10\/nigeria-to-stop-importing-petroleum-products-by-q1-2024-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria to stop importing petroleum products by Q1 2024 \u2013 FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government says there could be an end to importation of petroleum products in Nigeria by the first quarter of 2024.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/09\/why-fg-cant-intervene-in-rising-kerosene-price-sylva\/\">Timipre Sylva<\/a>, minister of state for petroleum resources, made this known on Monday at the government\u2019s series titled \u2018PMB administration scorecard 2015-2023\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The series is organised to showcase the achievements of Buhari\u2019s administration since he came into power in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Sylva said by the first quarter of 2023, the 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) Port Harcourt refinery would be partly rehabilitated, and ready for production. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur promise has been that the 60,000 bpd plant within the Port Harcourt refinery by the end of Q4 2022, it is being completed and is going to be started by Q1 2023 as promised,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said in addition to several modular refinery projects in the country, the 650,000 (bpd) Dangote refinery is also expected to be operational by the end of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Sylva said with the combined production of the Port Harcourt refinery, Dangote refinery, and the modular refineries, Nigeria would end the importation of petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that the federal government had intentionally acquired a 20 percent stake in Dangote refinery to ensure local supply of production from private refineries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have taken 20 percent equity in Dangote Refinery. We have also taken 20 percent equity in Azike refinery. In Walter Smith refinery, we took 30 percent and in Duport, we\u2019ve taken more than 20 percent. Duport refinery has already concluded construction and it only remains to start operations. I\u2019m sure within the next one month, they would start operations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are hoping Dangote refinery comes on stream this year and once our own rehabilitated refineries start to work, we will be able to get the country wet (with petroleum products).\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government says there could be an end to importation of petroleum products in Nigeria by the first quarter of 2024.
