{"id":241440,"date":"2023-01-14T03:50:29","date_gmt":"2023-01-14T02:50:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=241440"},"modified":"2023-01-14T03:50:29","modified_gmt":"2023-01-14T02:50:29","slug":"kwara-police-rescue-american-woman-lured-to-nigeria-and-swindled-by-internet-fraudster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/14\/kwara-police-rescue-american-woman-lured-to-nigeria-and-swindled-by-internet-fraudster\/","title":{"rendered":"Kwara: Police rescue American woman lured to Nigeria and swindled by internet fraudster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An American woman, Vonapolouis Moss, has been rescued by the police in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, after being allegedly swindled by a 23-year-old suspected internet fraudster, Awoleye Joshua Oluwatofunmi.<\/p>\n<p>The state commissioner of Police, Paul Odama, who disclosed this while addressing journalists on Friday, January 13, 2023, said Vonapolouis Moss of 2962, W 64th Court, Merrillville, Indiana 46410, USA, was allegedly lured into the country on January 9, 2023, by the suspect, who ripped her off over 1,000 USD.<\/p>\n<p>Odama said, &#8220;On January 12, 2023, at about 1200 hours, based on actionable intelligence, operatives of the SCID at the Kwara State Police command arrested one Awoleye Joshua Oluwatofunmi, \u201cmale\u201d of Sabo-Oke Road, Ilorin, within the premises of an hotel along Flower Garden Road, Ilorin, in company of one Vonapolouis Moss, \u201cfemale\u201d an American citizen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/18\/efcc-arrests-18-internet-fraudsters-in-ilorin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">internet fraudster<\/a> known as Yahoo Boy, presented himself to the victim on TikTok, a social media platform, as an American by the name of Howard Adams and ripped her off of about 1,000 USD.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The suspect later took a step further by luring the victim to fly into Nigeria on January 9, 2023, through the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, after which she flew into Ilorin the next day and was received by the suspect.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-241443 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/kunlenet07\/2023\/01\/14\/Vonapolouis-Moss-and-internet-fraudster.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1920\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/kunlenet07\/2023\/01\/14\/Vonapolouis-Moss-and-internet-fraudster.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/kunlenet07\/2023\/01\/14\/Vonapolouis-Moss-and-internet-fraudster-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/kunlenet07\/2023\/01\/14\/Vonapolouis-Moss-and-internet-fraudster-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/kunlenet07\/2023\/01\/14\/Vonapolouis-Moss-and-internet-fraudster-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/kunlenet07\/2023\/01\/14\/Vonapolouis-Moss-and-internet-fraudster-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/kunlenet07\/2023\/01\/14\/Vonapolouis-Moss-and-internet-fraudster-1536x1536.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The suspect also deceitfully took an unspecified amount of USD from the victim before she was rescued by police operatives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The necessary authorities have been contacted for appropriate action.
