{"id":242215,"date":"2023-01-17T07:31:40","date_gmt":"2023-01-17T06:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=242215"},"modified":"2023-01-17T07:31:40","modified_gmt":"2023-01-17T06:31:40","slug":"corruption-begin-prosecution-of-atiku-or-face-suit-keyamo-gives-efcc-72-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/17\/corruption-begin-prosecution-of-atiku-or-face-suit-keyamo-gives-efcc-72-hours\/","title":{"rendered":"Corruption: Begin prosecution of Atiku or face suit, Keyamo gives EFCC 72 hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo has requested law enforcement agencies to prosecute Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the<span class=\"acssf62a8\"> APC presidential campaign council had earlier asked law enforcement agencies to arrest the PDP candidate based on an audio recording<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u00a0released by Michael Achimugu, a former aide to Abubakar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">In the audio, the former vice-president is alleged to have explained how shell organisations were set up to divert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/09\/05\/video-i-cant-steal-public-funds-im-richer-than-us-president-biden-peter-obi\/\">public funds<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As at the time of filing this report, the authenticity of the recording in question has not been confirmed.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">In a letter addressed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Conduct of Conduct Bureau (CCB),\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">on Monday, Keyamo said he was acting for himself as a\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cconcerned Nigerian\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">He asked the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/12\/29\/soludo-opposes-deputy-hails-security-agencies-for-setting-roadblocks-in-anambra\/\">agencies<\/a> to commence the prosecution of Abubakar within 72 hours, adding that\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">by\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">Achimugu\u2019s \u201cevidence\u201d, the former vice-president is guilty of violating s<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">ections 5, 10, 13, and 17 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">Keyamo also alleged that Abubakar is in violation of section 18(2) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and section 96(1) of the Penal Code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">He said the PDP candidate does not enjoy immunity against prosecution, adding that\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">he would institute a suit against the agencies if they fail to prosecute Abubakar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cTake notice that because this matter is of great national importance, I expect you to act with alacrity and a sense of duty within seventy-two (72) hours of the receipt of this petition,\u201d the letter reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cTake further notice that if you fail, refuse and\/or neglect to act, I shall be proceeding to court to compel you to act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u00a0\u201cThe ball is in your court and Nigerians are waiting and watching.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo has requested law enforcement agencies to prosecute Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
