{"id":2425,"date":"2021-03-02T18:01:17","date_gmt":"2021-03-02T17:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=2425"},"modified":"2021-03-02T18:01:17","modified_gmt":"2021-03-02T17:01:17","slug":"senate-bars-sex-crime-offenders-from-working-with-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/02\/senate-bars-sex-crime-offenders-from-working-with-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate bars sex crime offenders from working with children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An amendment to the Child&#8217;s Rights Act 2003 has been passed by the Nigerian Senate today, March 1, barring persons convicted of sexual offenses from working with children.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0followed the presentation of a report by the Chairman of the Committee on Women Affairs, Betty Apiafi on the Child\u2019s Rights Act amendment.<\/p>\n<p>According to the lawmakers,\u00a0the amendment will further give protection to the Nigerian child from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/26\/just-in-violence-erupts-as-soldiers-police-dss-attempt-to-arrest-sunday-igboho-video\/\">sexual violence<\/a> and abuse suffered in the hands of caregivers and similar persons responsible for their wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate also passed the Older Persons Rights and Privileges Bill which seeks to address the social and economic challenges triggered by aging and the need for government to formulate policies that will incorporate the elderly and cater for their well-being.<\/p>\n<p>The bill provides for a fine of N2 million for organizations and N200,000 for Individuals found discriminating against older persons.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2426 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/03\/adewale-chocomilo\/2021\/03\/02\/603e509542f5b.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"539\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/03\/adewale-chocomilo\/2021\/03\/02\/603e509542f5b.png 539w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/03\/adewale-chocomilo\/2021\/03\/02\/603e509542f5b-300x127.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 539px) 100vw, 539px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An amendment to the Child&#8217;s Rights Act 2003 has been passed by the Nigerian Senate today, March 1, barring persons convicted of sexual offenses from working with children.
