Prof. Florence Obi, the vice chancellor of the University of Calabar, has ordered the medical board of the university to conduct an urgent and in-depth investigation into the events that led to a student’s death.<\/p>\n

Miss Precious Agini, who passed away on January 28 at the university’s Medical Center, was a third-year student in the department of library and information science.<\/p>\n

A release signed on Sunday in Calabar by the university’s registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, contains the directive for the probe.<\/p>\n

Egbe remarked that the VC and the entire university treasured student lives and were heartbroken by the traumatic loss that was reported at the institution’s medical center.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Medical Board is to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deceased\u2019s admission at the University Medical Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Medical Board is also to determine if the death could have been prevented, and examine the roles played by the individual workers of the Medical Centre in managing the patient.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Board is also expected to establish the veracity or otherwise of allegations of carelessness or negligence of duty among the staff members of the hospital in handling the patient and advise management on how to avoid a reoccurrence of similar situations in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe report of the Board is expected to reach the VC on or before February 2, 2023,\u201d Egbe said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
