{"id":245604,"date":"2023-01-31T09:58:03","date_gmt":"2023-01-31T08:58:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=245604"},"modified":"2023-01-31T09:58:03","modified_gmt":"2023-01-31T08:58:03","slug":"revoke-licences-of-erring-marketers-pengassan-tells-nmdpra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/31\/revoke-licences-of-erring-marketers-pengassan-tells-nmdpra\/","title":{"rendered":"Revoke licences of erring marketers, Pengassan tells NMDPRA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has disclosed that there is no basis for the current scarcity and price increase of premium motor spirit (PMS) across the country.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement released on Monday by\u00a0<span class=\"acssf62a8\">PENGASSAN.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the statement,<span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u00a0data made available to the union showed\u00a0 there was over 30 days PMS sufficiency in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">Festus Osifo, president; and Lumumba Okugbawa, its secretary-general, jointly signed the statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">The association regretted the hardship that Nigerians were being subjected to as a result of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/31\/petrol-scarcity-price-hike-obaseki-takes-action-after-massive-protest-in-edo\/\">scarcity<\/a> and price increase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cWe understand that the parameters imputed into the old Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency and now Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) template has since changed,\u201d the statement reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cThis is because of some economic vagaries such as exchange rate fluctuation, vessel hiring cost, and cost of AGO among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cHowever, there is no sufficient justification for petrol to be selling for such highly inflated price, thereby subjecting the masses to further difficulties.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">PENGASSAN urged the management of NMDPRA to compel all marketers and retailers to make the products available at the approved price.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">It also called on the regulator to immediately mobilise all its staff in various locations across the country to monitor compliance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">To act as a deterrent, PENGASSAN asked the authority to revoke the licenses of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/23\/subsidy-removal-nigerians-may-buy-fuel-for-n800-litre-marketers-advocate-for-a-friendly-subsidy-regime\/\">marketers<\/a> who fail to comply.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cShould this collusion go unchecked, we will not hesitate to partner with other stakeholders in ensuring that Nigerians are not further exploited,\u201d it said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">PENGASSAN\u2019s criticism comes amid a hike in the price of petrol at filling stations a scarcity that lasted for three months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NMDPRA had stated the<span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u00a0scarcity is worsened by the activity of cross-border smugglers, erring marketers, and ongoing road construction.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has disclosed that there is no basis for the current scarcity and price increase of premium motor spirit (PMS) across the country.
