{"id":246024,"date":"2023-02-01T22:13:22","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T21:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=246024"},"modified":"2023-02-01T22:13:22","modified_gmt":"2023-02-01T21:13:22","slug":"breaking-icpc-arrests-twitter-user-selling-new-naira-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/02\/01\/breaking-icpc-arrests-twitter-user-selling-new-naira-notes\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: ICPC arrests Twitter user selling new naira notes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission detained Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, a Twitter user from Abuja who goes by the handles @SimisolaGold and Simisola of Lala, on Wednesday for selling brand-new naira notes on social media, according to The PUNCH.<\/p>\n<p>Although Omoseyin had yet to name other members of the syndicate, newsmen learned that she was cooperating with the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The arrest was made as a result of intelligence received, which led ICPC officials to seek out and apprehend the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/24\/icpc-clarifies-discovering-billions-in-buratais-home\/\">anti-graft agency&#8217;s spokesperson<\/a>, revealed in a statement obtained by newsmen on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Ogugua said, \u201cOluwadarasimi Omoseyin, a social media \u2018serial entrepreneur,\u2019 who deals in skincare, sales of fuel, facilitation of foreign travels through visa acquisitions, and other businesses, seized the opportunity of the scarcity of the new naira notes to openly market the new notes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is believed that she is in collusion with key elements in the financial services sector diverting the newly released notes away from banking halls and payment channels into a \u2018black market\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ogugua further noted that Omoseyin is currently in the ICPC detention and is helping the commission with its findings on the criminal trading of the naira and the attendant scarcity and negative economic outcomes being caused by the action.<\/p>\n<p>The anti-graft agency noted that the action is in furtherance of the collaboration between the Central Bank of Nigeria, the ICPC, and its sister anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in implementing the new cashless policy and naira redesign.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission detained Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, a Twitter user from Abuja who goes by the handles @SimisolaGold and Simisola of Lala, on Wednesday for selling brand-new naira notes on social media, according to The PUNCH.
