{"id":246254,"date":"2023-02-03T04:34:29","date_gmt":"2023-02-03T03:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=246254"},"modified":"2023-02-03T04:34:29","modified_gmt":"2023-02-03T03:34:29","slug":"vandi-asked-me-to-replace-his-bullet-after-shooting-female-lawyer-police-inspector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/02\/03\/vandi-asked-me-to-replace-his-bullet-after-shooting-female-lawyer-police-inspector\/","title":{"rendered":"Vandi asked me to replace his bullet after shooting female lawyer \u2013 Police inspector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A police Inspector, Sunday Akagu, has narrated how Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi, the suspected killer of a female lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem, asked him for a bullet to replace his after shooting the pregnant woman on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/12\/26\/policeman-kills-female-lawyer-in-lagos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Raheem was killed on Christmas Day<\/a>\u00a0while trying to make U-turn under the Ajah Bridge when ASP, Drambi Vandi, shot at her vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking as the sixth prosecution witness, Akagu on Thursday told a Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, that Vandi asked for a bullet to replace his because it was not complete after the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>He added that, \u201cIn the process of going to the police station, the defendant (Drambi Vandi) said, \u2018Odogwu,\u2019 that\u2019s my nickname, \u2018Help me with one ammunition\u2019 and I said, \u2018No, where will I replace it? Why will I give you my ammunition?\u2019 I got provoked and told my colleagues what he requested.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, asked if he obliged his colleague\u2019s request, he replied, \u201cNo, over my dead body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The seventh prosecution witness, Olatunji Olagunju, the Investigating Police Officer of the case before it was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, said he was at the station around 1 pm when one Enema Titilayo (the deceased\u2019s sister) \u201cran to the station and reported a case of conspiracy and shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Olagunju told the court that he was part of the team that drove to the three hospitals the deceased was referred to before her death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe drafted the police and took her corpse to the Yaba Specialist Hospital and deposited her corpse,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>While narrating his encounter with the defendant, Olagunju said he \u201csaw him hiding under a staircase\u201d at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>In the course of his investigation, the witness said \u201cthe statement of the suspect was taken with caution while the statement of the complainant was taken voluntarily.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore I transferred the case, what I found out during my investigation was that the defendant fired the gun and at the same time his ammunition was not complete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs of the time of his arrest, I saw him with a civilian top on police trousers,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>During cross-examination, the defendant\u2019s lawyer asked, \u201cDid the complainant say she saw him shoot?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe knows him. She didn\u2019t mention his name because she didn\u2019t know his name. She already held him hostage at the Ajah bridge,\u201d the witness replied.<\/p>\n<p>When asked how many officers went to the first hospital, he said eight, contrary to the testimony of the first witness, who said five.<\/p>\n<p>When he was asked to mention their names, the witness explained that he was recently posted to the division and was not familiar with their names.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWould it surprise you that one of those who went with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/17\/dpo-warned-us-hours-before-vandi-shot-lawyer-police-inspector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DPO<\/a> said there were only five?\u201d the lawyer asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not true. We were eight,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n<p>He said after Raheem was declared dead at the third hospital, three policemen took her body to a mortuary.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the \u201cthree instances\u201d that made him conclude that it was his colleague who murdered Raheem, he said, \u201cWhen the gun was shot, the husband of the deceased came down and held the cop and took him to Budo (the first hospital) hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe second instance was that two (officers) out of the three held guns on that day.
