{"id":246842,"date":"2023-02-06T05:09:34","date_gmt":"2023-02-06T04:09:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=246842"},"modified":"2023-02-06T05:09:34","modified_gmt":"2023-02-06T04:09:34","slug":"lagos-nimasa-rescues-seven-workers-trapped-in-vessel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/02\/06\/lagos-nimasa-rescues-seven-workers-trapped-in-vessel\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos: NIMASA rescues seven workers trapped in Vessel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Deep Blue Team of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has rescued seven workers trapped in a Vessel in Lagos State following a distress call to the Director General of the agency, Dr. Bashir Jamoh.<\/p>\n<p>NIMASA\u2019s Assistant Director, Public Relations, Osagie Edward, in a statement on Saturday, said a Safety Officer on MT ALIMA on Thursday at about 11.30pm in a distress call reported that while cleaning the tanks of the vessel by a private cleaning company.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that eight of the cleaners developed complications due to insufficient oxygen available in the tank to sustain them and got <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/09\/04\/breaking-six-trapped-as-7-storey-building-collapses-in-lagos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trapped<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>the statement reads, \u201cDr. Jamoh, who immediately directed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/05\/multimillion-naira-gunboat-sinks-in-lagos-nimasa-denies-responsibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIMASA<\/a> Head of the Deep Blue project and Head of the Maritime Safety Department to deploy one of the fast intervention boats for rescue operations and also directed immediate medical attention to the survivors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edward said that NIMASA took the seven survivors to the military hospital at Ikoyi for medical attention where they were presently recovering at various degrees, adding that five of them were currently stable while one had a broken leg and one was still in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile reassuring the maritime community of NIMASA&#8217;s ever-ready 24-hour vigilance to respond to distress calls using any of the procured air, land and sea assets, Dr. Jamoh urged operators to be meticulous about basic safety standards at all times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe advised further that anyone working on board vessels should update themselves with required training that complies with Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) in line with the revised Manila Convention.
