As the country’s current economic hardship persists, former President Olusegun Obasanjo<\/a> expressed concern about the 2023 general election taking place as planned.<\/p>\n

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that Obasanjo stated that nothing would prevent the February 25 and March 11 elections from taking place while hosting members of the African Democratic Congress’ Board of Trustees at his penthouse residence within the grounds of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.<\/p>\n

Obasanjo stated that Nigeria is in an interesting period and urged the people to take the elections seriously.<\/p>\n

Other global communities, according to the former president, are interested and concerned about the outcome of the election, and every Nigerian is expected to do the same.<\/p>\n

He said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We cannot take it (election) any less important than those people (international community).<\/em><\/p>\n

We are in an interesting period in Nigeria. In less than three weeks, we will be going to the poll\u2026, well, I hope nothing will intervene against that. In less than three weeks, we will be electing a leader that will pilot the affairs of Nigeria for the next four years from May.<\/em><\/p>\n

And all of us in Nigeria, again, as I have said to you, early this morning, I have been in Togo, Ghana, and C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire from the beginning of the week, from Sunday and they are as concerned what happens in Nigeria as every Nigerian should be.<\/em><\/p>\n

Last night before I left Abidjan, President Ouattara (Alassane) was telling me the position in West Africa that Ghana and C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire are vying for and he said to me, \u201cwell, we are putting it on hold until after Nigeria\u2019s election\u201d. So even for them, Nigeria\u2019s election is of importance. And I believe that for us who are directly involved, we cannot take any less important than those people.<\/em><\/p>\n

Your party (ADC) is one significant party in existence in this country and your voice matter. Therefore, I understand why you are here and we are here also as a family, we are all in Nigeria we are a family, Nigeria family and therefore when we gather together we can also talk and discuss as members of the same family \u2013 Nigeria family for what is of concern to Nigeria.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
