{"id":247810,"date":"2023-02-09T15:43:22","date_gmt":"2023-02-09T14:43:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=247810"},"modified":"2023-02-09T15:43:22","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T14:43:22","slug":"why-cbn-must-obey-ex-parte-order-of-supreme-court-falana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/why-cbn-must-obey-ex-parte-order-of-supreme-court-falana\/","title":{"rendered":"Why CBN Must Obey Ex Parte Order Of Supreme Court \u2013 Falana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Femi Falana, SAN, a leading human rights advocate, has explained why the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, must abide by the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling regarding the currency swap crisis.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/15\/gunmen-kill-udala-fc-owner-manager-and-policemen-in-anambra\/\">Falana<\/a> warned the central bank not to believe stories and suggestions that it could disregard the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling prohibiting it from enforcing the ban on the old Naira notes.<\/p>\n<p>In his statement titled, \u201cWhy CBN Must Obey Ex Parte Order Of Supreme Court\u201d, he highlighted many cases supporting the court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>He asked CBN and its management to allow the judgement to run its entire course in the interim, pending an order of dismissal filed by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>Falana warned doing otherwise would spell doom and chaos for the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the interim, the Federal Government of Nigeria and its agencies, including the Central Bank of Nigeria, are bound by the valid and subsisting ex parte order of the Supreme Court of Nigeria until it is set aside by the same court.
