{"id":249627,"date":"2023-02-17T13:06:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-17T12:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=249627"},"modified":"2023-02-17T14:50:35","modified_gmt":"2023-02-17T13:50:35","slug":"new-naira-crisis-pregnant-woman-dies-in-kano-hospital-over-payment-alerts-delay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/02\/17\/new-naira-crisis-pregnant-woman-dies-in-kano-hospital-over-payment-alerts-delay\/","title":{"rendered":"Naira note scarcity: Pregnant woman dies in Kano hospital over bank alert delay for payment transfer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pregnant woman, Shema\u2019u Sani Labaran, has died at the Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Kano State over payment alerts delay as a result of the new naira policy crisis.<\/p>\n<p>According to Daily Trust, the late woman\u2019s husband, Malam Bello Fancy, said his wife died because the doctors didn\u2019t attend to her for more than three hours due to a delay in a transfer he made.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Freedom Radio, Malam Fancy, said he took his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/12\/27\/bandits-gang-rape-pregnant-woman-to-death-in-niger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pregnant wife<\/a> to the hospital when she was about to deliver, but that the hospital rejected his old naira notes and also had no POS, hence that they asked him to deposit the money in their account.<\/p>\n<p>Fancy said although he transferred the money and got debited, the doctors on duty didn\u2019t touch his wife as they said they must see the alert in their account, which took almost three hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife walked into the hospital from our house, but before they received the alert, the pains had doubled and she was already bleeding. Still, they didn\u2019t touch her until after three hours when they received the alert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter they admitted her, they discovered that she could not deliver by herself; that she must undergo an operation. I agreed and paid the money; still through transfer. It also delayed for an additional three hours before they received the alert and operated on my wife. Shockingly, the baby was brought out dead and the mother also died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Rahila Garba, denied the allegation, saying the claim was not the true representation of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>But other patients in the hospital confirmed the incident, saying they too encountered problems with payment of hospital bills which delayed services.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the spokesman of the state\u2019s Hospital Management Board, Malam Ibrahim Abdullahi, said they received information about the incident and that they would commence an investigation, Daily Trust reports.<\/p>\n<p>Abdullahi,\u00a0said, \u201cWe are not certain about the cause of the incident, we just got the information.
