{"id":253039,"date":"2023-03-04T05:25:55","date_gmt":"2023-03-04T04:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=253039"},"modified":"2023-03-04T05:25:55","modified_gmt":"2023-03-04T04:25:55","slug":"head-of-service-ex-accountant-bags-21yrs-imprisonment-over-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/03\/04\/head-of-service-ex-accountant-bags-21yrs-imprisonment-over-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Head Of Service Ex Accountant Bags 21yrs Imprisonment Over Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former accountant in the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, Garba Abdullahi Tahir, has been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for stealing N26.1 million meant for pensioners.<\/p>\n<p>He was convicted and sentenced by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/02\/21\/2023-federal-high-court-announces-5-day-break-to-allow-judges-vote\/\">Federal High Court<\/a>, Abuja, on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Abdullahi on an amended seven-count charge of money laundering.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed the development in a statement in Abuja, said the offence contravened Section 14(1)(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004 and was punishable under section 14(1) of the same Act.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThe judge sentenced the defendant to three years imprisonment on each of the seven counts.
