The leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, has described Saturday’s presidential election result declared by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, as a daylight robbery.<\/p>\n

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that INEC declared the All Progressives Congress, APC, standard bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as president-elect<\/a> after he polled a total 8,794,726 million votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party who came second and third places respectively.<\/p>\n

Atiku, who has now run for president six times secured 6,984,520 votes and\u00a0 Obi garnered 6,101,533 votes.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the declaration of Tinubu as the president-elect, in an interview with Arise TV on Friday, Pa Adebanjo,<\/a> said Tinubu’s victory was a pyrrhic victory.<\/p>\n

The elder statesman who supported Obi said the declaration of Tinubu as the winner was only temporal.<\/p>\n

Adebanjo added that, \u201cAs of that election, there was no result. What they have done to Tinubu is like what they did to the Interim Government of Shonekan. It was a pyrrhic victory allowed. As the leader (presidential candidate) of the Labour Party, Peter Obi said, we will prove it in court.<\/p>\n

\u201cI listened to the chairman of INEC, when Dino Melaye told him to suspend results because of a lot of irregularities. He said, \u2018why don\u2019t you let us correct them before we proceed?\u2019 He said, \u2018No!\u2019 But, INEC chairman said, \u2018let me complete this exercise and I will review\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a daylight robbery. The whole country supported you (INEC Chairman) to amend the Electoral Law and you promised to transmit the result by electoral means. You now went back to what we have fought against. What a shame! This government is a disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
