{"id":253246,"date":"2023-03-05T09:03:23","date_gmt":"2023-03-05T08:03:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=253246"},"modified":"2023-03-05T09:03:23","modified_gmt":"2023-03-05T08:03:23","slug":"scourt-verdict-malami-dissociates-self-from-cbn-naira-swap-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/03\/05\/scourt-verdict-malami-dissociates-self-from-cbn-naira-swap-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"S&#8217;Court Verdict: Malami Dissociates Self From CBN Naira Swap Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has said that it is not his duty to provide advice on monetary policies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/WITHINnigeria.com\"><strong>WITHIN NIGERIA<\/strong><\/a> had earlier reported that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/03\/03\/breaking-old-naira-notes-remain-legal-tender-till-dec-31-supreme-court\/\">old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes will continue to be accepted as lawful tender until December 31, 2023, the Supreme Court said on Friday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following the decision, the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have remained silent over the ruling and have declined to suggest a course of action to Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/02\/08\/just-in-protesters-storm-cbn-agf-office-in-abuja-over-scourt-verdict\/\">Malami<\/a> could not be reached for comment regarding yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/03\/04\/no-information-on-supreme-court-ruling-says-cbn\/\">Supreme Court decision.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>His media assistant, Dr. Umar Gwandu, told The Nation that Malami&#8217;s brief does not include recommendations for monetary policy.<\/p>\n<p>He asked the media to inform the public that he did not serve as an advisor on matters of monetary policy.<\/p>\n<p>Gwandu said: \u201cIt is important that the educational role of the mass media be exercised in this direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe media is an important tool for education and enlightenment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us use the media to inform the general public that the functions of the office of Attorney General do not include monetary policy regulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When his attention was drawn to a recent example where the AGF was categorical on the FG\u2019s disposition to the February 8th interim injunction issued by the Supreme Court, Gwandu declined comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has said that it is not his duty to provide advice on monetary policies.
