Bode George, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, has denounced the assaults committed by All Progressives Congress (APC) members and supporters on Saturday during elections.<\/p>\n

According to him, crimes committed against lawful citizens exercising their rights in a peaceful manner “is no different from war crimes and should be tried by the International Criminal Court (ICC)<\/a>“.<\/p>\n

The politician referred to the governorship and house of assembly elections as a sham and a complete insult to Lagosians’ sensibilities.<\/p>\n

George, in a statement, said he was \u201cshattered and heartbroken\u201d that democracy is in shambles in a state known for civility, humility, harmony and respect for the rule of law.<\/p>\n

\u201cNever in my life have I seen such a despicable and dishonorable way of not allowing people to express their right to elect whoever they want.\u201d<\/p>\n

The PDP chieftain said Lagos became a den of lunatics<\/a>, saying the forefathers who founded Lagos \u2013 the Aworis and others \u2013 \u201cwill be angry in their graves\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cPower-hungry fellows turned everything upside down in their quest to retain power, with \u2018Oro\u2019 worshippers invoking spiritual insults on other Nigerians in broad daylight,\u201d George added.<\/p>\n

Recalling soldiers deployed during the presidential and national assembly election, he quipped: \u201cWho ordered that the soldiers should be withdrawn during the governorship and House of Assembly elections?\u201d<\/p>\n

The retired General noted that due to threats from hoodlums, many potential voters returned home angrily without voting.<\/p>\n

George made reference to the \u201csnatching of ballot boxes\/papers by APC thugs\u201d, the burning of election materials and the free use of dangerous weapons at polling units.<\/p>\n

The PDP stalwart further accused the ruling party of fuelling ethnic division, as its followers disenfranchised people because they are Igbo or look like Igbo.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome voters were matcheted and shot. This is not the Lagos we used to be proud of. This election is a total disgrace to APC and Nigeria,\u201d he fumed.<\/p>\n

George maintained APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga is not an indigene, warning him to stop speaking on Lagos issues with authority.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
